Oct. 5, 2018 -- Retired Lt. Colonel Larry Burks is the new director of Military and Veteran Services at Wichita State University.

Oct. 2, 2018 -- Wichita State University has been awarded $813,000 to boost enrollment and retention of students under-represented in science, technology, engineering and math. The funds are part of a larger $3 million, five-year National Science Foundation grant awarded to Kansas State University, which is sharing grant funds with a statewide coalition of universities and community colleges.

Oct. 2, 2018 -- Last summer, Wichita State student Natalie Mark took a big step toward her goals by interning for the United Way of the Plains.

Oct. 1, 2018 -- As reported by the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR), KBOR's defined full time equivalent (FTE) for WSU is 11,285, an increase of 1.6 percent over last fall's 11,109. For KBOR reporting purposes, full time is considered to be 15 hours for undergraduates and 12 hours for graduate students.

Sept. 26, 2018 - Dean Elledge, program director for the Advanced Education in General Dentistry program at Wichita State, has won the Dentist of the Year award from the Wichita District Dental Society.

Sept. 21, 2018 -- The WSU Board of Trustees met Friday, Sept. 21, and were given a report on the campus from John Tomblin, vice president of research and technology transfer.

Sept. 20, 2018 -- WSU graduate Julius Thomas III is touring cross country with the Broadway hit show “Hamilton: The Musical.”

Sept. 19, 2018 -- Carli McCloud, a sophomore majoring in exercise science, was told she would never be able to cheer again after being diagnosed with a degenerative bone disorder. She's currently a member of the WSU Spirit Squad.

At Wichita State, that means researching and analyzing two areas - the next generation of medium-sized helicopters and the next generation of tactical unmanned aerosystems for the Army.

Sept. 12, 2018 - The Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic at Wichita State hosted the first Summer Literacy Camp for children.

Aug. 9, 2018 - Seven Wichita State sport management practicum students are gaining career experience with the National Baseball Congress through the NBC practicum.

Aug. 9, 2018 - Wichita State University set a new record for total research and development awards in fiscal year 2018 with a total of $104.5 million, increasing awards by more than $14 million and achieving gains in most funded departments.

Aug. 8, 2018 -- Wichita State will be home to the new Wesley Healthcare Urgent Care Center, thanks to a $3 million partnership between Wesley Healthcare and the Greater Wichita YMCA. The urgent care center will be located inside the new campus YMCA and is expected to open at the same time, in early 2020.

Graduating senior Jacob Griffith won a prestigious National Science Foundation fellowship to support his upcoming graduate studies.

June 20, 2018 -- The College of Education at Wichita State University has changed its name to the College of Applied Studies. The change was made to better reflect the broad range of educational and applied learning offerings the college provides.
